Catherine Kung, Floppy Ears' owner and co-founder, is fulfilling a lifelong dream of working with animals and derives immense delight from providing animals with the care, attention, and love that they crave. She specializes in ear rubs, chin scratches, and vigorous outdoor romps, and can often be seen wandering the beach with her Chiweenie, Marty McFly. In addition to her personal and professional pet care experience, Catherine also led an award-winning group of four other students during an internship at the Taipei Zoo in 2006.
When she isn't persuading a cat to get off of her laptop or a dog to relinquish a tennis ball, Catherine enjoys Internet memes, surfing, and dancing. She lives in Oakland with Marty.
Anna Smith, co-founder of Floppy Ears, has always been a full-time animal lover. As a little girl, one of her finest moments was being declared the official on-set dogsitter for Buddy, the sports-playing dog of the movie Air Bud. Although having four legs, feathers, or scales is an automatic plus in Anna's book, her friends can attest that she is particularly obsessed with guinea pigs. She has had six of her own guinea pigs (Ozma, Prince Fuzzball, Penelope, Martin, Nanuk, and Ukpik), and will drop everything when she hears a piggie squeak. Although guinea pigs were her gateway critter, she's the Floppy Ears small animal enthusiast - rats, chinchillas, rabbits, she wants to know them all.
Anna has a degree in English from UC Berkeley. She loves to read, particularly children's literature - who says animals can't talk? - and also works part-time at Oakland's Pegasus Books. With six years of professional experience in pet care, she is eager to continue learning and meeting new friends through Floppy Ears.
Miyuki Bierlein grew up as the only child among a bevy of animals. Dogs, cats, ducks, ferrets--she's seen and cared for 'em all. Living with allergenic housemates doesn't allow her a furry friend of her own, so she is thrilled to have the opportunity to care for the critters of others. Miyuki loves to see animals thrive in their environment and wants to make every cat she encounters purr and every dog wag their tail. When not melting into a puddle over adorable animals, Miyuki can be found in many a theater, putting her Theater and Performance Studies degree from Cal to good use as a performer and costume designer. And yes, she will consider making a tutu for your pug or calico.
